When we last heard from Milwaukee four-piece Alley Eyes, the indie-rock/sleaze group was getting ready to bounce from the bar in “Punisher.” (Sample lyrics: “Griffin’s showing women AI slop on his phone / Ashley asks for drugs if she can get you alone / Sirens in the distance, yeah I think that’s my ride / And I’m choking all my words with a French 75.”) Who among us hasn’t had a night like that?
And who among us hasn’t gotten all up in their feelings soon after? In Alley Eyes’ latest single “Good Times,” singer Colton Schroetter isolates himself from the crowd (“My friends all bother me / I don’t feel anything”), pines for his fading youth (“Give me back my youth / Give me back the nights that I spent / Huddled cold close to you”), and realizes there are some things that can never be returned (“Good times gone by / Friends in the grave”). All that late-night introspection is smuggled inside an ultra-polished indie-rock anthem that seems perfect for 2000s-era arenas and modern earphones alike.
Alley Eyes will celebrate the release of “Good Times” Thursday, August 13 at The Cooperage. Hot Mess, Callback, and Fakeout will play in support. Alley Eyes’ last EP, Bondage In The Afternoon, was released in 2025.
