When Milwaukee craves important and unique coverage of the weather—or Opening Day, or George Webb burger giveaways, or giant baby balloons—they turn to Bert Lauderdale. The local weather enthusiast and man-about-town has been a fixture in the city for years—and in the pages of Milwaukee Record since early 2024. His coverage of the Great State Fair Flood of 2025 alone qualifies him for Local Legend status:

And now, that Local Legend is (finally) getting his own beer: the perfectly named Bert LauderdALE. The new brew set to make its debut at a release party at Broken Bat Brewing Co. on Friday, December 19.

“I’m just excited to share a locally made beer with the locals, whether it be out and about galavanting on a sunny day or in the middle of a bone-rattling thunderstorm,” Bert tells us.

The genesis of Bert LauderdALE began not with Bert himself, but with a family member. The actual creation of the beer, meanwhile, came about thanks to a little help from some friends.

“My little brother was the one who was like, ‘Hey, why don’t you have your own beer?'” Bert explains. “I was like, ‘I don’t know.’ He said, ‘Bert LauderdALE lines up too good not to at least try.’ And so I put it out into the world, and Broken Bat head brewer and friend Nick Guthery was the first to reach out and offer to help make it happen. Nick is a friend of mine from high school, Milwaukee School of Languages, and Tim Pauly the owner has been nothing short of fantastic in helping through the process as well.”

Bert describes Bert LauderdALE as a “crushable Golden Ale with ‘Zeus’ Thunder Hops.” It will be available in 16 oz. cans and on tap at select locations.

“A few of the possible/interested landing spots for the beer are Major Goolsby’s, Boone & Crockett, Experience Milwaukee Cafe at Wantable, Walters’ on North, Foltz’s, and the St. Paul Fish Company’s Palapa/Tiki Bar,” Bert says.

As for release party, it’s set for Friday, December 19 at Broken Bat, from 5 p.m. to close. Local band Fellow Kinsman will provide live music. Needless to say: BE THERE.

Oh, and Bert LauderdALE comes complete with at least two taglines: “Turn to a Bert LauderdALE to weather the storm of life,” and “Bert LauderdALE: Good Enough.” Perfect.
