Thanksgiving has come and gone, and hopefully you had a chance to squeeze in your requisite viewing of Planes, Trains and Automobiles sometime last month. And since there’s no such thing as too much John Candy, we figured we’d complement that seasonal standard with another Candy classic. Yes, we’re ending our 2022 Avalon Theater movie series on a high note with a screening of Uncle Buck on Wednesday, December 28. Tickets are on sale NOW!

Much like Planes, Trains And Automobiles, this 1989 film was written and directed by John Hughes and stars Candy as an abrasive and misunderstood man with the best intentions. This time around, Candy—who plays the titular Buck Russell—is joined by a supporting cast consisting of Macaulay Culkin (a year before his breakout performance in Home Alone), Jean Louisa Kelly, Gaby Hoffmann, Laurie Metcalf, among others. The film earned nearly $80 million at the box office (compared to its $15 million budget), while serving up a wealth of memorable Candy quotes and one gigantic pancake in the process.

This extra special December 28 screening in Avalon’s intimate Backstage Theater will begin at 6:30 p.m. It’ll be presented with the support of our friends at Lakefront Brewery, Great Lakes Distillery, and Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin. Tickets are $11 and they’re available NOW.
