And the blows to local TV news just keep on coming: Less than a week after senior FOX6 sportscaster Tom Pipines announced his retirement, legendary TMJ4 meteorologist John Malan has announced his impending retirement. A weather-predicting fixture in the Milwaukee area since 1980, Malan has been with TMJ4 since 1994. His final day on air will be March 1.

“I am so grateful to our viewers for their loyalty and support over the years,” said Malan in a press release. “I’ve had a career doing what I love. Now it’s time to spend more time with my family and pass the baton to the talented team of meteorologists we have on Storm Team 4.”

Beyond being a familiar face in Milwaukee for nearly four decades, Malan served in Vietnam, and earned a Purple Heart. He was also a co-owner of the sadly defunct Fun World, which always made some kind of weird sense.
