Nearly a year after veteran meteorologist Vince Condella took his leave from the Milwaukee airwaves, another familiar local news personality is signing off: Today, FOX6 senior sports anchor Tom Pipines announced his impending retirement. Pipines’ last day will be February 12, closing out a 32-year career at WITI.

“I will always cherish working at FOX6,” Pipines says in a FOX6 announcement. “People like (FOX6 anchor) Tim Van Vooren, (FOX6 photojournalist) Mickie Leach and all the wonderful bosses, colleagues and viewers who have honored me with a connection is the greatest gift I’ve had over my career.”

Pipines began his decades-spanning career at WITI in 1984. A self-described “frustrated athlete who loves people,” Pipines’ old-school broadcaster vibe—coupled with his passion for all things Wisconsin sports—made him an invaluable, trusted, and sane sportscasting presence. According to FOX6, Pipines plans to spend his retirement dedicating “more time to the non-profit world in our community,” and filling in on-air when needed.
