Multiple sources (including Mark Belling, who broke the story) are reporting that noted internet troll, podcast host, hat-wearer, and occasional sheriff David A. Clarke Jr. has resigned from his post as Milwaukee County Sheriff. Finally.
According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Clarke submitted a letter of resignation to Milwaukee County Clerk George Christenson on Thursday afternoon. (Of course, Clarke is in Nashville today, and could not be reached for comment.) The letter reads:
“Pursuant to Wisconsin Statute 17.01, this communication is submitted as the notice of my resignation as Sheriff of Milwaukee County commencing Aug. 31, 2017, at 11:59 p.m.”
“After almost forty years serving the great people of Milwaukee County, I have chosen to retire to pursue other opportunities,” Clarke said in a later statement. His successor will be appointed by Gov. Scott Walker.
As for what’s next, Clarke is expected to reveal his future plans sometime next week. A tweet about Belling’s show drops a few hints:
Live-tweeting Mark Belling: I’m not at liberty to tell you much about what he’s going to do. But not gov’t position. He’ll be active.
Politico, however, cites two sources who say Clarke will take a position in the Trump administration.
Finally, here’s just some of the stuff we’ve written about this fucking guy. Finally.
