Last summer, Milwaukee/Chicago’s Vacancy Chain formally made its presence known with the release of Count The Stars. In the year-plus since that excellent debut album first encountered eardrums, the indie rock outfit has played a steady diet of shows and has been hard at work crafting new material for a forthcoming EP.

In advance of casting that yet-untitled EP into the world, Vacancy Chain is trick-or-treating listeners to what the band is calling a “digital teaser single” that just so happens to tie into a certain autumnal holiday. With a brash and undeniable nod to ’90s-era alternative rock, “Halloween Hot Sauce” runs through a laundry list of some of the worst and least child-friendly items that could be found in your pillow case or plastic pumpkin pail during spooky season. We’d still take most of these gross or downright dangerous things over a Bit O Honey.

Between the twisted and comedic take on trick-or-treating, Ashley Altadonna’s catchy vocal melody, and toe-tapping instrumentation, you should really pour some “Halloween Hot Sauce” on your digital music collection and purchase the track for $1—that’s less expensive than a Kit Kat these days!—on Bandcamp. You can also see Vacancy Chain perform at X-Ray Arcade on Friday, November 22 in support Body Futures (album release), Nonagon, and Redshift Headlights.
