If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance you have a junk drawer that’s overflowing with can coolers. Maybe you even have a designated “koozie bag” that’s stuffed with beer sleeves emblazoned with logos of sports teams and bank branches, mascots and mottoes of obscure townie bars, milestone birthday sentiments immortalized with cracking ink on foamy fabric, or the names of two people who tied the knot in 2014 and are now divorced.
There’s an inexplicable-yet-undeniable human compulsion to collect can koozies and hold onto them for years, no matter how many one has already acquired or how dumb the koozie might be. Since spring cleaning is in full swing and prime outdoor drinking days on the horizon, we thought we’d help folks either reduce or improve their koozie collections during a brand new event we’re calling “The Great Milwaukee Can Koozie Swap.”
From 1-5 p.m. on Saturday, May 13, people who are 21 and older are invited to bring their koozie collection to Promises (538 W. National Ave.) to try to make some deals. We’ll have some tables set up around the Walker’s Point bar/venue to serve as makeshift marketplaces where people can broker deals for beer sleeves. Buy koozies! Sell koozies! Trade koozies! Anything goes—at least anything directly related to can coolers—at The Great Milwaukee Can Koozie Swap. We’ll even have a mic set up on stage, where people can drum up interest in some of their favorites (or ask us to serve as auctioneers). Want us to appraise your collection? Sure! Why the hell not.
But there’s more! The first 200 people through the doors will get a free can koozie that features the logos of Busch Light (the official sponsor of this first-year event) and Milwaukee Record on it. This koozie is a hot commodity! Show it to a Promises bartender ANY TIME BETWEEN MAY 13 AND JULY 4 and get $1 off cans of Busch Light. That’s $2 cans of Busch Light for almost two months, people!
There is NO COVER for this can koozie swap meet. For more information on The Great Milwaukee Can Koozie Swap, go to…actually, there is no more information to share. Just bring your koozies and some beer money to Promises on Saturday, May 13 and let’s make some deals!
