Depending on which news sources you follow, Milwaukee is going through either a “renaissance” or a “reinvention.” Or maybe it’s a “development boom” or a “construction boom.” Or maybe it’s a “reboot” or a “reimagining,” like that crappy Tim Burton version of Planet Of The Apes. However you want to define it, it’s safe to say that not only is Milwaukee is currently building a lot of new shit, a lot of its preexisting shit is changing. For example:

• Milwaukee County vehicle owners will likely begin paying a new $30 wheel tax in 2017! This is half of the $60 wheel tax proposed earlier by County Executive Chris Abele, who hasn’t paid state income taxes in 14 years! Fun! [Milwaukee Journal Sentinel]

• The Milwaukee Common Council voted 12-2 to temporarily rezone the land of the Estabrook Park dam, a first step in its planned demolition! [Milwaukee Journal Sentinel]

• Two new Milwaukee County Transit System “JobLine” routes have been added in order to “give people that don’t have adequate transportation the opportunities to get jobs they normally wouldn’t be able to obtain.” [MATC Times]

• John Hawks Pub is closing after 45 years! [OnMilwaukee]

• The new Hamburger Mary’s in Walker’s Point is open! [OnMilwaukee]

• The Milwaukee Christmas Tree was installed at City Hall this year, instead of at Red Arrow Park! [Fox6]

• Milwaukee Public Television is changing its name to Milwaukee PBS for some reason! [Milwaukee Journal Sentinel]

• Former Fox6 consumer reporter Katrina Cravy has a new part-time gig on WKLH-FM! [Milwaukee Business Journal]

• Construction of Northwestern Mutual’s $450 million headquarters is clipping along! And Milwaukee’s skyline is changing! [Milwaukee Business Journal]
