Milwaukee knows long-distance running isn’t for everyone. Exhibit A: the 1.6-mile beer run/walk that kicks off the annual Locust Street Festival. It has beer! Exhibit B: the just-announced .05k “drag race” walk/run coming to Walker’s Point. It’s only 164 feet! And it involves beer!

Yes, HIV healthcare organization Vivent Health will host the Drag Race & Bar Crawl in Walker’s Point on Saturday, July 26. Check-in is at 1 p.m. at POP, 124 W. National Ave. The .05k walk/run will begin at 2, and participants are encourage to “run/walk in high heels or full drag if they feel inclined to do so.” Fun!

Registration is $30, and includes a Drag Race shirt and a “passport” for the subsequent bar crawl. That crawl will include six LGBTQ+ Walker’s Point bars—POP, Fat Daddy’s, D.I.X., Walker’s Pint, Fluid, and LaCage—and will run until 7 p.m. The bars will donate a portion of their profits to Vivent Health, and there will be a Vivent Health representative at each location to accept further donations. A non-alcoholic “passport” will also be available.

“All of us at POP are honored and excited to host Vivent Health’s Drag Race,” says POP Assistant Manager Mikey Sadowski in a press release. “We strive to be an inclusive, safe space for everyone, and we love being able to celebrate both the art of drag and the incredible work Vivent Health does for our community. Vivent Health’s impact goes far beyond what many see, and getting to lift that up through a moment like this means everything to us. Drag your friends, grab your heels, and let’s get cute for a cause.”

Oh, and also from the press release:

Support for this event is especially critical as new funding cuts from the Trump Administration are adding significant challenges to the health and wellness of people living with or impacted by HIV. Wisconsin would be one of the hardest hit states with $1,225,000 in cuts—decimating programs and services that thousands of Wisconsinites rely on for their health. In Wisconsin, 73% of Vivent Health patients live at or below the Federal Poverty Line, and 75% have no insurance or rely on Medicaid or Medicare.
