East Side Art Market Returns with Full Summer Schedule
Milwaukee, WI – The East Side Business Improvement District (BID) is teaming up with Milwaukee Makers Market for a new, full season of the East Side Art Market. This year’s season expands on last year’s short and popular September run, with Markets hosted from noon to 4pm on the second and fourth weekends of the month, June through September in the East Side Art Lot at 1915 E North Ave.
When the East Side BID created the East Side Art Lot last year, there was a lot of enthusiasm but not much programming planned due to uncertainty around the pandemic. That’s when Steph Davies of The Waxwing and Ryan Laessig of Milwaukee Makers Market approached Liz Brodek of the East Side BID and asked about hosting an art market in the Lot. “It was a no-brainer; this event made so much sense for the space, and I knew Ryan and Steph are experienced, careful organizers who would want to ensure a fun and safe event,” said Brodek. The East Side Art Markets were born.
Last year’s Markets ran only through September, as the Art Lot did not open until mid-August. They drew hundreds of people to the East Side each weekend and proved extremely popular, earning a spot as a semi-finalist, among Milwaukee Makers Market and eventual winner Ryan Laessig, of the Shepherd Express’s Best Of in the Art Market category.
East Side Art Market organizer Ryan Laessig is thrilled about the new, extended season. “We’re excited to bring back the East Side Art Market with more makers and musicians to bring an even better market experience in 2021.”
This year, not only will the Art Markets feature more vendors than what social distancing requirements had limited organizers to in 2020, but live music will also return, and beer and seltzer will be available for purchase at the Markets as well. “We really want this to be a full experience for people joining us. Come for the Market and local makers, and stay around the area for fantastic brunch and fun, unique entertainment. You can easily make a full day of fun experiences,” says Liz Brodek, executive director of the East Side BID. Laessig agrees, “Come to the East Side Art Market to support local, listen to live tunes, and enjoy some East Side vibes!”
East Side Art Markets will happen rain or shine and take place in the East Side Art Lot, 1915 E North Ave., from noon to 4pm on the second and fourth weekends, June through September.
