Believe it or not, Static Eyes haven’t put out a record in about four years. Since releasing a split with Drugs Dragons in 2013, the Milwaukee garage rock vets have replaced their bassist, they wrote a batch of new songs, and have played said songs at a bunch of shows across the state. Along the way, the new look and better-sounding band found time to record three songs at Crutch Of Memory Studios (Amos Pitsch of Tenement’s home studio) in Appleton over the winter.

Before Static Eyes formally releases The Thaw on Friday, the band made a chilly, cabin fever-influenced video for the 7-inch’s title track. “The Thaw” was self-shot at Holler Park in Milwaukee as the seasons were turning. Fortunately, the wintry conditions and a band whose progress was temporarily frozen are both experiencing a thaw, meaning things will soon be heating up.

Static Eyes will release The Thaw at High Dive on Friday, March 17. Head On Electric, Jason Paul And the Know It Alls, and Detenzione will play in support. The free (21+) show starts at 10 p.m.
