When we last checked in with VLNTYN back in April, the self-described “conceptual dark indie rock project” fronted by Milwaukee singer/songwriter Jorge Vallentine was taking listeners on a “Wrong Turn” by releasing a brooding, intense single with an equally gloomy visual treatment. Just over six months later, VLNTYN is back with another song that lands decidedly on the dark end of the spectrum.

The aptly-named “It Gets Dark” is a jagged and frantic garage rock offering Vallentine says “is centered around a metaphor of trauma and PTSD as a shapeshifting monster we can’t escape.” Despite its heavy subject matter, the punchy number is approximately 150 seconds of driving, distorted goodness. Before the song hits streaming services on Thursday, October 22 (the same day VLNTYN plays a single release show at MKeUltra), listen to “It Gets Dark” below.
