We’ll be the first to admit that we’ve been sleeping on Social Cig. The Parker Schultz-fronted indie-rock project had a big 2022, releasing the full-length CHEESEHEAD, receiving plenty of local acclaim, and playing a slew of high-profile shows (opening for the Wet Leg show at The Pabst Theater, selling out a headlining show at The Back Room). But sleep on Social Cig we shall do no longer! As proof, here’s the recently released video for “Hot Red,” a standout track from CHEESEHEAD.
The Austyn Meyer-directed clip opens with Schultz playing with some dinosaur toys in a Tenenbaums-esque blanket fort. From there, Schultz daydreams about a color-matching picnic date complete with kite-flying, that Breakfast Club shuffle dance, and a cigarette or two (natch). From there, things get prehistoric and animated—the latter courtesy of animator Ryman Lollar. Do the animated dinos also enjoy a smoke? You bet they do.
