Way back in February, the Milwaukee Common Council unanimously approved the creation of Hip-Hop Week MKE. “Hip-hop has the unique ability to bring communities together and stimulate conversations about relevant issues in our society,” said Ald. Khalif Rainey, who proposed the event. “I am thrilled to bring this event to our community with the help of my colleagues. In August, Milwaukee will experience the true power and influence of hip-hop.”

And now here we are in August, and Hip-Hop Week MKE is about to kick off. The schedule is pretty incredible, with concerts, films, discussions, and much more setting up shop in Milwaukee venues from now until August 26. Want local talent? You’ve got it. 1 p.m. – Press conference, Hip-Hop Week MKE Launch at Miller High Life Theater, 500 W. Kilbourn Ave.

6-8 p.m. – Hip-Hop networking at Miller High Life Theater, 500 W. Kilbourn Ave.

8-10 p.m. – Masters of Ceremonies free hip-hop concert featuring Milwaukee hip-hop artists at Miller High Life Theater, 500 W. Kilbourn Ave.


5-7 p.m. – Jay Morrison Financial Intelligence at The Wisconsin Black Historical Society, 2620 W. Center St.
8-10 p.m. – Baby Drew Unplugged with Cigarette Break at Mister J’s Lounge, 4610 W. Fond Du Lac Ave.


Noon-1 p.m. – Masta Ace presents Hip-Hop & Health discussion at St. Joseph’s Hospital, 5000 W. Chambers St.

1-3 p.m. – Hip-Hop Health Fair w/ special guests Mannon Sabir of the Juice Kitchen, C_HaZe fitness and nutrition expert and hip hop artist, and celebrity chef Michael Feker
