Back in 2020, we introduced you to Rum Revere, the pandemic-era solo project of longtime Milwaukee drummer, musician, and pal Brock Gourlie. Highlighting Gourlie’s work at the time were funky drum loops, sampled beats, and occasional mashups of that one Enya song and dialogue from Planes, Trains And Automobiles. The first two return in the new “Marbles,” though Enya and John Candy take a back seat to the “White Lines” bassline and samples from an old episode of The Dating Game.

Yes, bubbling beneath Gourlie’s caffeinated beats is the famous bassline from “White Lines (Don’t Don’t Do It),” which itself was a cover of Liquid Liquid’s “Cavern.” The repeated “I didn’t lose control” sample, meanwhile, comes from a typically swingin’/awkward 1969 installment of The Dating Game. (“The episode with Farrah Fawcett,” Gourlie informs us.)

“Marbles,” along with accompanying song “The Horror,” will be included on an upcoming Rum Revere record. In the meantime, enjoy the Farrah Fawcett episode of The Dating Game, complete with a pretty nifty (and staged) fight.
