Milwaukee singer-songwriter Danny Arcane largely travels in the indie-pop lane, but he’s no stranger to some good old fashioned slow jams. Back in 2023, The U.S.- and U.K.-raised Arcane released the smooth “Do You Wanna?” on Valentine’s Day. Now, two years and a few more singles later, Arcane is back with the chilled-out funk of “Girl.” Or maybe it’s not so chilled-out after all…
“Wanna be your sun and not your fall / When the winter comes won’t wait for spring to call,” Arcane croons. The retro-inspired music video, meanwhile, feels right at home with Arcane’s previous DIY clips (especially the clip for “Following”).
“The song is supposed to encapsulate the feeling of wanting to be someone’s everything, their reason for wanting to exist. No matter the season, the weather, or the obstacles,” Arcane says. “It’s about taking a chance, putting yourself out there, and hoping love chooses you back.”
Oh, and there’s a reason for the stationary green screen vibe of the video. “I tore and had my ACL and meniscus repaired in the middle of 2024,” Arcane explains, “so had limited mobility to make music videos and content, but made it work.” Speedy recovery, Danny!
