While the Milwaukee music community comes to terms with the upsetting news that Bug Moment (and a handful of other great Milwaukee and Madison bands) will no longer be playing a show at a local Culver’s, we’re hoping to help ease the pain with another concert announcement that features an awesome act performing in an unexpected location. Nope, it’s not another up-and-coming local project playing at a burger chain in the ‘burbs. This time around, we’re talking about none other than Lou Barlow playing a solo set at a Bay View home goods store.

That’s right! On Friday, July 7, the legendary musician who you surely know from his work in Dinosaur Jr. and Sebadoh will treat URSA (2534 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.) to an intimate performance. This will actually be the second time Barlow will play the store, as he treated a small crowd at URSA to a memorable set that traversed his extensive back catalog and included a few unexpected covers back in 2018. It’s also worth mentioning Barlow will be performing with Dinosaur Jr. at Summerfest the night before this solo set.

Tickets to experience “Lou Barlow and his guitar, lots of songs, many stories, and some laughs” at URSA on July 7 are $30 and, given the limited space at the store, are very limited. Doors open at 6 p.m., with Barlow beginning his performance at 6:30 p.m. The boutique’s owners tell Milwaukee Record there will be seating available this time around and guests are invited to bring their own beverages to enjoy responsibly.
