These days, you’d be hard-pressed to find a Milwaukee band that’s busier than Gold Steps. The local pop-punk outfit routinely plays out locally—they had two shows in Riverwest on the same day last weekend!—between tours and festival appearances. Along the way, the band has amassed close to a million listens on streaming platforms and they recently inked a deal with Revival Recordings.

As Gold Steps prepares for the October 7 release of This Ain’t It on Revival, the band is treating listeners to sporadic singles from the upcoming EP. January brought the release of lead single “Stay The Same,” which was followed by the “Front Row” song/video last month. Today, Gold Steps offers a third taste of what’s to come with yet another top-notch song with a next-level music video.

“Petty” confronts themes of dishonesty, as an accuser references lies being spread by an untrustworthy acquaintance. While the subject matter is heavy, the lyrics are backed with chugging riffs, powerful percussion, and singer Liz Mauritz’s undeniably catchy pop-rock vocals. The visual pairing finds the band interrogating someone in an effort to get to the bottom of a story that just isn’t lining up. The imagery of borderline torture is countered with fun footage of Gold Steps performing the bouncing and super sing-along-able single.

Gold Steps is currently on tour, but they’ll return to the region to play High Noon Saloon on August 21 before performing at X-Ray Arcade on September 3. Before that show and the October 7 release of the band’s This Ain’t It EP, check out the “Petty” music video below.
