In addition to being among the city’s most innovative and motivated rappers right now, Emmitt James also makes sure to use his musical platform to help others. Since moving back to his native Milwaukee in late 2022 after a decade-long stint in Los Angeles, James has raised money for charitable organizations with his annual Big Band BBQ event at Third Space and last December’s “Juke Jamboree” concert that doubled as a toy drive.

This holiday season, James is joining forces with friend, frequent collaborator, and House Of Renji label mate Genesis Renji for another fun event that aims to raise funds for those in need. On Saturday, December 14, the musicians will take the court to compete against one another in the inaugural “Hoop 4 The Holidays” charity basketball game. The so-called “Basketball Benefit” will take place at Howard Fuller Collegiate Academy (2212 N. Vel R. Phillips Ave.), with Team Emmitt James and Team Genesis Renji scheduled to tip off at 2:30 p.m. Both James and Renji will perform at halftime.

Tickets to the game/concert cost $15 (or $5 with a donation of winter apparel such as coats, hats, gloves, and scarves). There are also $45 courtside seats available. Funds raised and winter clothing collected will be donated to Guest House Of Milwaukee. Come for the basketball, stay for the music, and pay for a good cause at this first Hoop 4 The Holidays benefit on December 14.
