Remember when beloved Washington Heights watering hole Wonder Bar held down the fort at 5520 W. Vliet St. for more than 20 years? Remember when it closed in July 2023? Remember when a new joint, Biersal Tavern, opened in the space the following year? Remember when that closed a mere year later? And, finally, remember when a new new bar, Fancy’s, was announced for the space in July 2026?
Of course you do. Well, here’s the finale: following a soft opening over the weekend, Fancy’s is open. Like, now.
“Wow what a weekend,” owner Nate Stiemke said in a social media post from Monday. “I felt all the love and happiness. I can’t thank everyone enough for making the soft opening so dang special!!! WE’RE OPEN!!! Games gonna be on!!!”
So there you go. Fancy’s, a self-described “friendly neighborhood corner bar,” is open! Games are gonna be on! Check it out! [h/t Dan Shafer]
