Bay View got noticeably less sweet today. This afternoon, Lakeside Bakery (1100 E. Oklahoma Ave.) abruptly announced the retail portion of the bakery would be closing “effective immediately.” Owners announced the surprisingly decision to close in a Facebook post.
“It is with a heavy heart that we share that the retail store for Lakeside Bakery will be closing for business effective today, Tuesday, January 9th. This was not an easy decision to make as we understand how much of a staple the bakery has been to many families throughout Milwaukee and the surrounding area over the past one hundred years of the bakery’s standing. We are thankful for having had the opportunity to carry on the memories and the traditions, and we deeply cherish all of the smiling faces we’ve met along the way. Thank you, Bay View, for the opportunity to serve this beautiful community. You will all be missed dearly.
The Italian bakery known for its sweet treats, seasonal Pączki, and its beloved Sunday hot ham and rolls took over the property that was previously home to Canfora Bakery in 2017. Farewell, Lakeside Bakery. Thanks for making Milwaukee’s mornings a little better.
