Stop us if you’ve heard this before. A new restaurant is planning to open at 2301 S. Howell St. The new occupant of the space located at the high-traffic corner of Lincoln and Howell in Bay View will be a venture called Gordo Burger. According to the incoming business’ website, it will offer 10 specialty burgers (including decadent options like the “Mac Attack” and the spicy “El Fuego”), a small assortment of classic fried/breaded appetizers, and a few desserts.

Gordo Burger will be the latest business to try its luck in the property that’s been “cursed” with a number of short-lived restaurant endeavors over the past eight years. Since longtime tenant Guanajuato left the space in favor of a larger location a couple doors south down Howell in late 2012, the retail space has been home to Mr. Webo’s, Strada Pizza, and Lombardi’s Restaurant & Pizzeria. Odd Duck’s owners opened Hello Falafel in the space in late spring of 2016. After it closed in January 2018, Hello Falafel’s owners continued to use the property as a private event and catering space called Little Duck.

Here’s hoping Gordo Burger can turn things around at 2301 S. Howell. Though and opening date is not known at this time, Gordo Burger’s hours of operation will be 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Stay tuned for more information on the restaurant as it becomes available.
