After eight years in business, East Side axe-throwing bar AXE MKE, 1924 E. Kenilworth Pl., is getting, well, the axe. Sort of.
On Monday, Milwaukee “activity bar” group Bars & Recreation announced that it will close AXE MKE and integrate it into its Walker’s Point shuffleboard-and-curling bar, NorthSouth Club, 230 E. Pittsburgh Ave. The final day of operations for the East Side AXE MKE will be April 26. The AXE MKE experience will reopen at NorthSouth Club on April 30. (And yes, NorthSouth Club already has axe throwing.)
“AXE MKE has built something people genuinely connect with,” says David Poytinger, co-founder of Bars & Recreation, in a press release. “Moving that brand to Walker’s Point gives it the space to grow while strengthening the overall experience we’re creating across our venues.”
The press release notes that “the move creates a more dynamic, all-in-one destination where guests can experience multiple activities in a single visit, with more room to gather, play, and stay longer. […] Reservations for the NorthSouth Club location will be available on a rolling basis, 30 days in advance.”

In addition to NorthSouth Club, Bars & Recreation operates the recently opened Slingshot Bar, Nine Below (indoor mini golf), Splash Studio (painting), Amped (karaoke), Game Show MKE (game shows), and The New Fashioned (a little bit of everything).
