Back in June, The Laughing Tap moved out of 706B S. 5th Street—where it had been hosting comedy shows since January 2020—and set its sights on a new location. In October, owners revealed where “Milwaukee’s new home for comedy” will be. The comedy club’s new digs will be in the George Watts & Son building at 761 N. Jefferson St. in downtown Milwaukee.

The new and improved Laughing Tap is expected to open in early 2026. In the meantime, the business’ owners are looking for a little help to assist with the build-out and other interior improvements needed before they can open to the public. Last week, The Laughing Tap launched a GoFundMe fundraiser with a goal of $10,000. According to a video released in association with the fundraiser, the money will help the club build its bar, a box office, and stage, while also making upgrades its to lighting and sound.

These additions and upgrades will happen regardless, but donations will help the business get back to hosting local and national comedians as soon as possible, and will help make The Laughing Tap 2.0 an even better place to watch stand up. This week, as you’re encouraged to give to others and shopping local, consider throwing a few bucks The Laughing Tap’s way to help them with this massive undertaking that’s sure to have a major impact on Milwaukee’s comedy scene.
