Sad news, longtime Milwaukee thrifters: The Value Village at 324 W. North Ave. is closing today. Signs in the windows and a call to management confirmed that Friday, December 30 is the store’s final day in business. The national chain’s other Wisconsin locations—Layton Boulevard, Racine, and St. Francis—will remain open.

Happily, the store isn’t going out without a dollar-saving bang. From 9 a.m.-6 p.m. today, thrifters can stuff a T-shirt bag full of whatever they can find—shirts, slacks, maybe some floppy disks—for a mere $5. Shoppers looking for larger used goodies that won’t fit in a bag—overalls, couches, VCRs—can still enjoy a storewide 75% discount.

R.I.P. North Ave. Value Village. We’ll always remember you. And that distinctive and not-unpleasant smell that never seemed to leave the shirts we bought from you.
