Milwaukee Record is working in partnership with Urban Cat Coalition—a local organization that’s dedicated to creating a no kill community by humanely reducing the cat population in the Milwaukee area through targeted trap-neuter-return (TNR)—to help find loving homes for area cats. Each week, we plan to highlight a feline friend that’s currently up for adoption by naming it “Milwaukee Record’s Cat Of The Week.” This week: the loving and sweet Salem.
Salem is more than just a regular black cat—he’s full of personality and complexity! He likes to stay in the know about everything happening in his foster home, following his foster mom everywhere. If a door closes behind her, he makes sure his presence is known. There will be no secrets between Salem and his future person!
His favorite cat tree? The human one! Salem loves sitting on shoulders and considers himself a foodie. He tries to sneak a nibble of whatever his foster mom is eating (especially chicken wings), though she doesn’t always indulge him.
Salem has hyperesthesia, which means he gets overstimulated easily and may react with a nip to let you know he’s done being pet for the time being. He’s a loving and sweet cat who just needs someone with patience and understanding that can read his body language and respect his boundaries. When he’s having a moment, he simply needs a little space and quiet to reset, and then he’s back to being his affectionate self. We can probably all relate to that.
Salem enjoys wrestling and chasing with the resident cat and would love a feline companion who can match his energy, though he would also do fine as a solo cat.
Given his quirks, Salem would do best in a home with prior cat experience. He may not be the right fit for a first-time cat owner, but for someone who understands him, he’d make the perfect companion. He is eager to find the right home and would love to meet his match. If you think you’re the one, get an app in to meet him!
