A lot of people were goofing on Gov. Tony Evers (more than usual) when, earlier this week, he announced a bizarre vaccination promo for the Wisconsin State Fair: get a free vaccination shot at the State Fair, get a free cream puff.
“Yeah, that’ll do it,” said folks desperately waiting for more Wisconsinites to get vaccinated. (Roughly 50% of the state’s adult population has been vaccinated so far.) Well, go figure, the free cream puff deal seems to be working!
“BIG news from the State Fair: 50 people have dropped by our @wistatefair vaccine clinic to receive the #COVID19 vaccine,” Evers tweeted Friday afternoon. “If you’re headed to the State Fair this weekend, stop at our vaccine clinic on your way in to get your shot—and a cream puff! #TeamCreamPuff”

For comparison, a total of 19 people took the city up on an offer to get vaccinated for a chance to win tickets to Game 6 of the NBA Finals, in which the Milwaukee Bucks triumphed over the Phoenix Suns at Fiserv Forum. Similar offers during the Bucks’ playoff run drew “between 17 and 35 people.”
So there you go. OUR WAY OUT OF THIS IS THROUGH VACCINATION, AND OUR WAY TO VACCINATION IS THROUGH FREE CREAM PUFFS.
The 2021 Wisconsin State Fair began Thursday. The State Fair vaccine clinic runs through August 15, 11 a.m.-8 p.m. daily. Get vaxed, Wisconsin.
