On Tuesday night, the Milwaukee Brewers officially clinched the National League Central. This is the team’s fourth consecutive division title and the third straight under manager Pat Murphy. After taking over as the Brew Crew’s skipper prior to the 2024 season, Murphy has led Milwaukee to more than 90 wins in each of his three years at the helm.
With 11 games left in the regular season, the Brewers need to win just three more games to match the franchise-best total of 97 victories—which Murphy and company accomplished last year—and get four more wins to set a new team mark. If they stay hot, 100 wins is definitely possible. In short, Milwaukee’s current manager is very good. In fact, he’s on pace to be the best Brewers manager of all-time if he sticks around for a few more seasons and even comes close to matching his early productivity.
While he’s quickly become one of the franchise’s most prolific leaders and he now has the chance to help the Brewers achieve a milestone the team has never accomplished before, Pat Murphy was preceded by a bunch of other managers. Including the contemporary boss, the Milwaukee Brewers have been managed by 19 men during the team’s 56 years of existence. Some were long-tenured and experienced success. Others were short-lived and shabby. There were a few interim managers who took over for others partway through a season. A couple of guys even had two separate managerial stints in the Brewers dugout.
As we appreciate just how good things are now under Murphy’s leadership (and wait to see exactly how good things could become), let’s look back at some former Milwaukee Brewers managers. There’s no reason for the specific order and we’re not offering any commentary. It’s honestly just a list of old Brewers skippers. Enjoy!
