The streetcar sponsored by the casino should go to the casino. It should also go a bunch of other places. And it should be a light rail, not a streetcar. And they should have built that train that connects to Kenosha and the Metra system in the 1990s, and the Amtrak to Madison in 2010. And fuck Scott Walker and Mark Belling forever.
A route going to the casino would make sense, as there's already line on St. Paul Ave. Thing is, it would have to get extended way west. It's 1.1 miles from the streetcar "garage" under 794 to the casino, so it's not a huge distance. But, it would mean digging up the streets, and I know it's not cheap. That said...
I have regretted losing the North Shore Line to and from Chicago, once an hour on the hour. It ended in 1964, I think. Still need something to take its place.
Whenever they end up canning 794, they really should put a light rail or something there. Link up the airport to downtown and then they can build it out from there.
But also, really I just need them to stop focusing all their public transit projects on a 1 mile x 2 mile strip of land that most people don't live in.
