Pink Umbrella Theater Company Announces Ribbon Cutting and New Permanent Home: A State-of-the-Art Accessible Theater Center Coming to Milwaukee’s Historic Mitchell Street
Milwaukee, WI – Pink Umbrella Theater Company, Milwaukee’s first and only professional theater company dedicated to working with and employing actors and artists with disabilities, is proud to announce the company’s first-ever brick-and-mortar home at 1104 W. Historic Mitchell Street. The company will take full occupancy of the space on June 1, 2026, with a public ribbon cutting celebration on June 7, 2026. Registration information can be found here.
After years of producing professional theater through long-term rentals, this milestone marks a transformational step forward not only for Pink Umbrella Theater Company but for the future of accessibility in the arts across Milwaukee and Wisconsin. After the completion of a capital campaign, this space will be remodeled as a state-of-the-art Accessible Theater House, setting a new standard for what inclusive theater can and should be.
“This building is more than a performance venue. It will be a home for Disabled Actors and Artists, and it is our intention to open our doors to small(er) arts organizations and emerging artists too,” said Katie Cummings, Founder and Executive Director of Pink Umbrella Theater Company. “Our goal is to make accessibility the norm.”
Quorum Architects is working closely with stakeholders at Pink Umbrella Theater Company to create a one of a kind performance venue in Milwaukee, the state and possibly the nation.
Pink Umbrella will host performances, classes, workshops, professional development, and consulting work, while also providing affordable, accessible space for small and emerging arts organizations. The center is designed to be a magnet and destination for creativity with the goal of supporting emerging artists, fostering shared knowledge, and strengthening Milwaukee’s arts ecosystem.
