MILWAUKEE RECREATION TO HOLD GRAND REOPENING CEREMONIES FOR NEWLY RENOVATED STARK & CARMEN PLAYFIELDS
Community invited to celebrate renovated outdoor recreation facilities
Milwaukee Recreation will hold two grand reopening ceremonies in June to mark the completed renovations to Stark Playfield (4951 N. 40th St.) and Carmen Playfield (7320 W. Carmen Ave.). The Stark Playfield Grand Reopening will be held on June 13th at 1:00pm and the Carmen Playfield Grand Reopening will be held on June 20th at 11:00am. The events are open to the public. Community leaders and Milwaukee Recreation staff will also be in attendance.
Community feedback was essential to both projects, helping guide the design process and create a sense of ownership for the surrounding neighborhoods. Milwaukee Recreation led multiple on-site community engagement events and gathered additional input via online surveys.
“We are thrilled to see the completion of these two playfields,” said Lynn Greb – Director, Milwaukee Recreation. “The neighborhood residents provided crucial input to help shape these spaces and we couldn’t be more proud of the end results. These new playfields are stunning, vibrant, and welcoming spaces that children and families will enjoy for years to come.”
Each playfield now features upgraded walking loops, age-appropriate playground equipment, a splash pad, shade structures, and a multi-purpose field. New and upgraded amenities were also added, including lighting, benches, and trash receptacles. Additionally, the fieldhouse at each location was updated to include community rooms and accessible restrooms. Stark Playfield features updated basketball and tennis court facilities. Carmen Playfield also includes the city’s first ever Aventus Basketball Wall and Tuj Lub courts
