Milwaukee Public Schools Shifts to Masks Optional for Week of August 19-25
Update follows CDC rating for Milwaukee County
MILWAUKEE (August 19, 2022) – Milwaukee Public Schools is shifting to a mask optional policy for all schools and sites for the week of August 19-25, 2022. This includes all district activities.
The district is following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) COVID Data Tracker as the source for COVID-19 data in Milwaukee County. COVID-19 community levels are monitored by the district on a weekly basis. When COVID-19 levels are rated in the medium or low category, MPS will allow optional mask wearing. If COVID-19 levels return to the high category, mandatory mask wearing will be reinstated.
The CDC updates its COVID-19 Community Levels data on Thursdays. The district will send communications to families, staff, and the community when the mask policy changes levels.
As a reminder, MPS schools on the traditional start calendar begin on Tuesday, September 6, 2022.
MPS will continue to have masks available for students and staff at all schools and district sites. We ask our students and families to please continue to take daily steps to avoid COVID-19.

• Wash hands often.
• Stay home and get tested if you are sick.
