Milwaukee Art Museum: Welcoming Dr. Kim Sajet, our new director
Dear Friends,
We are thrilled to share exciting news about the Milwaukee Art Museum:
Dr. Kim Sajet has been appointed the Museum’s next Donald and Donna Baumgartner Director, effective September 22.
Kim is a highly respected museum leader and art historian. For the past twelve years, she led the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C., where she expanded the museum’s reach through innovative exhibitions, doubled attendance, guided major capital improvements, and raised more than $85 million in support of operations and the endowment.
Born in Nigeria, raised in Australia, and educated in the United States and Europe, Kim brings a global perspective and a lifelong commitment to making art accessible, relevant, and engaging. She believes deeply in museums as civic spaces that foster learning, dialogue, and connection.
Her leadership begins at a milestone moment for the Museum: the 50th anniversary of the Bradley Collection of Modern Art first going on view to the public. This transformative gift of nearly 400 masterpieces, including works by Picasso, O’Keeffe, Rothko, and Warhol, established Milwaukee as a center for modernism and significantly shaped the Museum’s identity. This fall, we will celebrate the anniversary with the Art Forward Gala on September 20 and the opening of The Bradley Collection of Modern Art: A Bold Vision for Milwaukee on September 25.
Please join us in welcoming Dr. Kim Sajet to Milwaukee and to the Milwaukee Art Museum. We look forward to working together under her leadership to connect people with art, each other, and the world.
Warmly,
Your Museum’s Senior Leadership Team
André Allaire, Natalie Boten, Alissa Karl, Amy Kirschke, Scott Schwebel, Liz Siegel, Kantara Souffrant, and Linda Woods
