Mex Avenue Announces Second Location
Wauwatosa favorite to open East Side location in Crossroads Collective
MILWAUKEE, WI: January 4, 2024 — Mex Avenue, Wauwatosa’s popular Mexican eatery, will expand to a second location opening January 11 inside Crossroads Collective Food Hall.
Founded by Melissa Escobar, a second-generation Mexican American, Mex Avenue has become a local favorite after opening in Wauwatosa’s Mayfair Collection in November of 2022.
Mex Avenue offers traditional Mexican fare including tacos, enchiladas, burritos and flautas; along with modern twists on classic flavors with MEX Fries, Birria Ramen, QuesaBirria Tacos and Churro Pancakes. Mex Avenue’s bright and upbeat new location will also serve margaritas and non-alcoholic Aguas Frescas. Escobar plans to extend her popular Taco Tuesday and Thirsty Thursday traditions to the new Crossroads Collective location.
Inspired by her father, grandmother, and time spent in Mexico throughout her life, Escobar is determined to keep authenticity at the core of Mex Avenue, “Even in the smallest details, such as our Mexico-based graphic designer, I make decisions in my life and for Mex Avenue that keep me true to my roots.”
Restaurants have been a vital part of Escobar’s life since she was a child. As a teenager, she worked as a server in her father’s Milwaukee-based restaurants. As an adult, she began a career in business before realizing that her heart was in the restaurant world. Before opening Mex Avenue, she operated her own taco truck that operated at events throughout Milwaukee for two years.
“We can’t wait to welcome Mex Avenue into the Crossroads Collective community,” commented Emily Chirillo, Director of Hospitality for New Land Enterprises, the owner and operator of the food hall. “The flavors, fun, and festive programming are perfect for families, students, and more. Taco Tuesday has a new home on the East Side!”
Inside Crossroads Collective, Mex Avenue will occupy the stall formerly occupied by Dia Bom, a Latin-Asian Fusion restaurant opening their own Brick & Mortar location in Walker’s Point. Crossroads Collective is also home to Kawa Ramen & Sushi, The Pharmacy Bar, Nute’s Café, Scratch Ice Cream, Noodle Me, Ready To Roll, Temple Goddess and Adonis Burger Co.
Crossroads Collective is an East Side food hall opened in 2018 by New Land Enterprises. The food hall provides shared space and resources to support emerging and growing chefs and restaurateurs, while bringing new flavors and experiences to Milwaukee’s East Side.
