LuLu Café and Bar celebrates 25 years with free Bay View street festival featuring WMSE broadcast and live Milwaukee music

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — Lulu Café and Bar will celebrate 25 years as a Bay View neighborhood favorite with a free anniversary street festival on Saturday, August 29, featuring a live broadcast from WMSE 91.7 FM’s Boogie Bang, food and drinks, DJs, and multiple live sets from some of Milwaukee’s finest original bands.

The celebration begins at noon with WMSE broadcasting Saturday Afternoon Boogie Bang live until 3:00 p.m. Live music follows beginning at 3:15 p.m., featuring five bands representing the depth and diversity of Milwaukee’s vibrant independent music scene. DJs will keep the energy flowing between performances throughout the day and there will be a craft activity for kids and adults alike.

Live Music Lineup

12:00–3:00 p.m. — WMSE Saturday Afternoon Boogie Bang (Live Broadcast)
Milwaukee’s longest-running R&B, hip-hop, and rap program brings its signature mix of contemporary artists and classic hip-hop to Bay View with a special live remote broadcast from LuLu.

3:15 p.m. — Book of Johns
Book of Johns is an experimental trio creating “cinematic improv” through organic instrumentation, shifting rhythms, unconventional phrasing, and evolving soundscapes that unfold into immersive musical journeys.

4:15 p.m. — Sleepersound
Sleepersound is an experimental collaboration of musical textures, bringing a dreamy blend of post-indie, pop, and shoegaze that creates a captivating and genre-defying live experience.

5:15 p.m. — Electricity Kills
Electricity Kills fuses classic rock power with punk-rock intensity into a fast, electrifying performance. Imagine The Clash colliding with Deep Purple at full volume and launching a T. Rex-sized dance party.

6:30 p.m. — The Dirty Sweet
Combining the swagger of The Replacements with the melodic craftsmanship of Cheap Trick, The Dirty Sweet delivers hook-filled, Americana-infused power pop celebrating love, late nights, and rock ‘n’ roll.

8:00 p.m. — The Wisconsin Space Program
The Wisconsin Space Program is a Milwaukee psychedelic rock band known for expansive, improvisational performances that blend space rock, jam-band exploration, and vintage psychedelic influences into immersive live experiences. Swirling guitars, hypnotic grooves, and spontaneous musical interplay make every performance a unique journey.

Food and Drink

For this outdoor event, LuLu will be turning some of its classic menu items and beloved specials into street fare that pays homage to its past 25 years of crafting tasty sandwiches influenced by flavors from around the world. Beer, wine and craft cocktails will also be served inside and out.
