Say what you will about the hoopla—good and bad—surrounding Record Store Day, but the fact remains that it’s a great chance to score some pretty nifty vinyl shit. Adding to the list of RSD goodies are the good folks at WMSE, who will be releasing a Field Report 7-inch at this year’s annual event. Live From The WMSE Studios, Field Report will feature—you guessed it—live cuts recorded acoustically by frontman Chris Porterfield at the WMSE studios on October 20, 2014. “Home (Leave The Lights On)” will grace side one, while a cover of John Prine’s “Speed Of The Sound Of Loneliness” will grace side two. This will be the independent radio station’s first foray into vinyl.
“WMSE is the bedrock of Milwaukee music. Foundational,” Porterfield says in a press release. “From DJs to engineers to fundraisers to music director to listeners, everyone cares deeply about music and this city. They’ve supported me from the beginning, and I’m honored to work with them on this vinyl venture they’ve been dreaming of doing for years.”
Artwork for the record will be created by tireless Milwaukee artist (and WMSE DJ) Von Munz, and will be revealed through a series of photos on the staion’s homepage and Facebook. The album will be available at all local retailers participating in Record Store Day. Porterfield will also take part in an as-yet-unannounced in-store performance in support of the release.
