We don’t hear from Shontrail all that often, but when he decides to resurface, he really makes it count by doing things like releasing the song of the summer, winding up on our year-end Favorite Milwaukee Music lists, and turning heads at Mitten Fest. Admittedly, it’s been a while since we’ve checked in on the genre-melding Milwaukee singer and project namesake, but he just released a music video for a new song and, as usual, it’s awesome.
“Ghoul City” is the second single from Shontrail’s forthcoming album, Sonata. Between Shontrail’s brash vocals and his backing band’s fast-paced and frenzied accompaniment, the Slide Bath-produced track is raw, rowdy, and unrelenting. The video—directed by Shontrail’s longtime friend, collaborator and rhythm guitarist Dario Camarena—perfectly matches the song’s chaotic intensity. In fact, it even begins with a warning about the video’s use of flashing images.
If you’re sensitive to such things, you might just want to stream the song instead. The rest of you should buckle up for a 95-second thrill ride and watch Shontrail’s “Ghoul City” music video below.
