We try to keep up with new Milwaukee music as best we can here at Milwaukee Record. Our coverage is far, far, far from comprehensive, but you know what? We do okay. We’re proud of what we do, even if we do miss a ton of stuff.

However, every now and then we absolutely kick ourselves for missing something particularly good. And in that spirit, please enjoy the song “Ducks,” from Milwaukee musician Jared Gibson, a.k.a. Floryence. It’s from the 2024 EP Mallard Cafe. It involves ducks. It’s funny, catchy as hell, charming as hell, and really good. The chorus (“You won’t miss me tonight”) is forever stuck in our heads. We love it.

How did “Ducks” finally land on our radar a full year after its release? Well, Gibson emailed us. “Wanted to get my Milwaukee-based solo project, Floryence, on your radar,” he wrote. Simple as that.

Gibson says he’s starting to play shows in Milwaukee, “so you’ll likely hear more from me as well.” If “Ducks” and the other three songs on Mallard Cafe are any indication of what Floryence is all about, we can’t wait.
