When he’s not drumming for shimmering electro-pop juggernaut GGOOLLDD, Mark Stewart is busy making music of his own. What kind of music, you ask? Well, under his newly minted moniker Pharo, Stewart has just released his debut single, “Spring Construction,” and it’s glorious. Clearly indebted to the electro goodness of GGOOLLDD, the song also boasts a dreamy, retro (but dance-y!) vibe that provides a perfect accompaniment to Stewart’s effects-laden vocals. It’s one of the best Milwaukee singles of the year.

“Spring Construction” is the fourth release on Close Up Of The Serene, a new label and club night series headed by Max Holiday of Athletic Supply (formerly Bleach Athletixx, and featuring Stewart on drums). Other projects on the label include Liquid City Motors and Mercury Drums. Like Close Up Of The Serene itself, Pharo will be a singles-based project, so keep your ears open as new songs appear in the future.
