In late 2020, prolific singer-songwriter Peter Mulvey and the incomparable instrumentalists in SistaStrings (a duo made up of Monique and Chauntee Ross) co-released Live At The Cafe Carpe, a live album the accomplished artists recorded at the eponymous Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin cafe in pre-pandemic times. Almost two years removed from that record’s release, Mulvey—a Milwaukee-born musician who now calls Massachusetts home—and the Ross sisters—a Milwaukee mainstay who are enjoying tremendous amounts of success following a recent move to Nashville—will once again be collaborating on a joint album.

On Friday, August 12, the pair will release Love Is The Only Thing via Ani DiFranco’s “Righteous Babe” record label. In advance of the album’s release, the record’s first single was cast out into the world this week. “You and (Everybody Else)” is a rollicking introduction to the album, with Mulvey’s impassioned guitar playing and jovial vocals being joined by SistaStrings’ top-notch violin and cello work that add depth and energy to the lead single. With 12 other songs joining “You and (Everybody Else)” on Love Is The Only Thing, something tells us we’re in for a treat when the album comes out August 12.

As you wait for that release date, you can listen to “You and (Everybody Else)” below. You can also see Mulvey at Cafe Carpe June 23-25, and at the South Shore Farmers Market in Bay View the morning of June 25. SistaStrings can currently be seen playing alongside Brandi Carlile, Allison Russell, and other internationally known artists in arenas and amphitheaters all over the county. In fact, SistaStrings will be performing with Brandi Carlile at Fiserv Forum on Friday, August 5.
