When we last caught up with BLAX, the veteran Milwaukee MC was channeling director Wes Anderson for the wonderful “Intelligent Beings” video. The video came a year after the release of the full-length Angeline, a.k.a. one of our favorite Milwaukee records of 2022. So what has BLAX been up to lately? Turns out, plenty.

Today, BLAX dropped a new single, “Dreamweaver.” It’s a nimble and lyrically assured track that finds the artist skipping like a stone across a sample bed of “You Take My Heart Away”—a.k.a. a Bill Conti song from the original Rocky. Listen to it now:

“Dreamweaver” is the first single from BLAX’s upcoming album The Blaxploitation, due June 24. And if a song wasn’t enough, the album is being previewed with a podcast. Check out the first two episodes of The Blaxploitation Podcast below, where BLAX and producer/engineer Reason talk Milwaukee hip-hop, merch, the future of streaming, and, of course, the upcoming album.
