Blackbird is an all-around great place. The Bay View bar—which, truth be told, was one of the first places to advertise with us—boasts a staggering selection of Wisconsin-brewed beer, more pinball machines than anywhere else in the neighborhood, a photo booth, one of the best happy hour specials in the city, plus Yahoo! Travel just named it one of the “50 Best Dive Bars in the U.S.” (Great job, Milwaukee!) The bar’s playlist is usually chock full of Milwaukee music, and since fall of 2013, Blackbird has also given control of the turntables to local bands from 10 to close on select Fridays nights for its “From The Stage To The Booth” DJ series.
The bar just finished booking the series’ third season, which finds guest sets from a wide variety of local acts, ranging from Myles Coyne tonight, a Heavy Hand appearance during Bay View Gallery Night, a Rush-Mor Record Halloween edition, debut outings from brand new projects 3099 and Rx Drugs, as well as a night where yours truly will conduct a Milwaukee Record local spin.
