Barely Civil, Known Moons team up for fantastic ‘Barely Known’ split EP

What’s better than one of the best Milwaukee bands releasing new music? Well, two of the best Milwaukee bands releasing new music on a split EP, of course.

Enter Barely Known, an upcoming EP featuring two unreleased tracks from Milwaukee emo band Barely Civil, and two unreleased tracks from Milwaukee indie band Known Moons. (Remember that 2019 split from SIN BAD and Bad Wig called SIN BAD WIG? It’s kind of like that!) The full EP is due February 6; on Friday, each group made one of their songs available for streaming: “BANG! SLAM! CRASH” from Barely Civil, and “TIME” from Known Moons. So stream ’em now! (They’re really, really good.)

“Known Moons was originally going to be just a recording project until Barely Civil invited us to play their album release show last year,” says Known Moons frontman Andrew James in a press release. “Since then, we’ve played a handful of shows together and talked about the possibility of recording new music with Josh Evert at Silver City Studios and releasing a split.”

“Known Moons is our favorite band in the city,” says Barely Civil frontman Connor Erickson. “Collaborating with them on this release was a no-brainer for us.”

Both bands will play an Anodyne workers benefit concert at X-Ray Arcade on Friday, December 19; an open-to-the-public installment of WMSE’s Local/Live at Anodyne in Walker’s Point on Tuesday, January 6; and an EP release show at Cactus Club on Friday, February 6. Phew!

“There is such a wealth of talent in Milwaukee and to be able to create alongside these artists that we love is something we try to highlight as much as possible,” Erickson says. “It’s a gift to be here, in this city, making art. We hope you enjoy it.”
