Back in 2022, we described indescribable Milwaukee band as Oak as a group in possession of “a strange and unclassifiable energy that penetrates every bone and pore and follicle in your body.” The band’s 2022 EP, Lake House Sessions, we said, hummed with “vibes somewhere between ‘dream’ and ‘stoned revelation.'” Sound like something you’d be into? Then buckle up for as Oak’s upcoming full-length record, across Oklahoma.

“A 13-track journey that takes the listener to the moon and back,” says the band of the album, due March 21. “Vocalist Jesse Frye puts his vocal range on full display as he traverses all terrain. From soft, delicate falsetto to booming, blooming chorus. This album finds the group continuing to stretch their creative legs and push their sound in new directions.”

Ahead of the record’s release, as Oak is releasing a series of singles; the first, “Nightmares On Wax,” dropped last week. It’s a chilled-out groove that finds Frye in full falsetto mode, and the rest of the group (Jason Hilleshiem, Blake Lorino, Sean Maroney, Christian Ricco) in full laid-back-jam-band mode. Fantastic stuff:

Look for additional across Oklahoma singles on February 14 and March 15. as Oak will play WMSE’s Local/Live on March 18, and our Midweek Music series at the Bay View Crafty Cow on March 27. A record release show is set for March 22 at Club Garibaldi.
