This past January, Mitch Ciohon decided to hit pause on his popular and long-running Taco Moto food truck for a few months in order to shift his culinary focus to one of his greatest loves: snacks. The Milwaukee chef and former Snack Boys co-owner decided to bring back some beloved standbys from the menu of that shuttered restaurant and unveil some new snack creations under the “South Water Snacks” name.
Ciohon’s unconventional concept operated out of Boone & Crockett, where it thrived in late winter and early spring until announcing its temporary closure on April 20 along with a promise to return “next snack season.” Well, it appears “snack season” will begin about eight weeks from now. This week, Ciohon posted on South Water Snacks social media accounts to say “there will be snacks” available to order at Boone & Crockett again starting Wednesday, December 17.

It’s a little early to tell what’s going to be on the menu, but we imagine Snack Boys-turned-South Water Snacks mainstays like Mitchy Wings, the BBQ Blue Balls, Bosco Sticks, and the legendary Fried Bologna Sandwich will all be in the rotation, with exciting new indulgences sure to hit the menu as well.
Sure, colder and darker days are ahead, but the snacks are coming back to Boone & Crockett beginning December 17. Maybe winter isn’t so bad after all. Follow South Water Snacks to stay up to date on the pop-up concept’s menu and its planned hours of operation.
