Fall is here. Along with autumn’s dropping temperatures and ever-shortening hours of daylight comes the mounting hunger for comfort food. And in Wisconsin, few (if any) dishes scratch that itch better than the almighty casserole. The only drawback of this rib-sticking and budget-friendly seasonal standby is it’s something usually enjoyed at home. Well, what if some of your favorite restaurants made their own rendition of casserole for you?

Join Milwaukee Record at Falcon Bowl on Sunday, November 9 for a celebration of all things casserole. The third annual “Casserole Call” event will feature a wide range of area businesses descending upon Falcon Hall (801 E. Clarke St.) in Riverwest and serving up their own unique take on this beloved Midwest culinary favorite as they vie for the title of Milwaukee’s Best Casserole—which will be decided by those in attendance.

From noon to 3 p.m., casserole connoisseurs are invited to taste samples from the likes of Bakehouse 23, Beans & Barley, Cory The Riverwest Sandwich Fixer, Fox Den, Kinship Community Food Center (last year’s champs!), Lasagna Love – Milwaukee, LuLu Cafe And Bar, Midwest Sad, Pie Inc. (a shared Honeypie, Comet, Palomino booth), and Red Maple MKE (the 2023 champs!).

Tickets cost $8 in advance ($12.25 after tax and fees) and $15 (flat $15 cash or $16.65 with card) at the doors. Each ticket includes three sample vouchers. Additional samples can be purchased for $1 each. Miller High Life—a generous event sponsor along with our friends at Dederich Swinney & Associates—will also be on special to help cut through the sodium and starch intake. Best yet, ALL the proceeds Milwaukee Record brings in through ticket and sample sales will be donated to Kinship Community Food Center. We’ve officially issued a Casserole Call. Will you answer?
