Back in 2022, the Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company released a “Lodge Pack” consisting of four fruit-forward and summer-suited beers. At the time, I figured my dear mother was far better qualified than I was to evaluate the quartet of new shandy varietals.

Well, with news of two different shandy varietals—the “bold take on classic shandy” High Shore Shandy and the Orange Shandy that’s back for a limited time after a seven-year hiatus—hitting the market, I figured it was time to ask my mom to come out of reviewer retirement to try ’em. Here are her thoughts.

Orange Shandy

“I love the can. Very lively and summer-y looking. Mmm, that’s very nice. It has a nice orange flavor. A little malty, even. Yeah, it’s really, really good. I’d compare it to the Peach [Shandy], I think. It’s really refreshing. It’s 8:30 at night and I’m thirsty for a beer, but I almost think this might be a really good breakfast beer, too. Better than a mimosa. Having an Orange Shandy might be the plan.”

High Shore Shandy

“Big tall can—I like that! Eight percent alcohol. Oh my goodness! Oh, yum. It’s super lemony. It’s…uh, yeah, it’s very summer-y. It makes me want to ride a muskie. I like the can.”

So there you go. Thanks, mom!
