Looking for a roundup of Milwaukee food and drink news? Then take a bite of our cleverly titled, bi-weekly Food/Drink Roundup! This week: Midwest Sad!
• Okay, try to follow along here: Milwaukee comfort-food bakery Midwest Sad opened in April 2024 in the lower level of 770 N. Jefferson St. in downtown Milwaukee. (You know, the same lower level as Shah Jee’s!) In February 2025, owner Samantha Sandrin announced she would soon be opening a new Midwest Sad at 601 S. 6th St. in Walker’s Point. It was supposed to open in April 2025. General hurdles of opening a new business pushed that opening to this weekend. But, thanks to some plumber drama (read all about it HERE), the new Midwest Sad is still waiting for its official opening date.
So what’s an increasingly harried bakery to do? Debut its new menu in its old location, of course!
Here’s the latest message from Sandrin:
We’re doing something a little wild and pivoting to opening new sad @ old sad! This process of this plumbing situation is making our lives hard and it sucks! People have reached out and asked how they could help; this is how. Show up at our already open location tomorrow [Friday] for our classics, and then this weekend for a full food menu preview including some new additions and some throw backs! Share this with everyone ya know, people ya don’t know, scream it at people, tell your local pharmacy tech, idk everyone. We really hope to see ya, we can’t wait to see ya at Walker’s Point but that’s gonna have to wait till next week.
Oh, and you can donate to an ongoing Midwest Sad GoFundMe HERE. [Instagram]
