After roughly two years in business, Bay View bakery Gather Bakehouse, 1100 E. Oklahoma Ave., is closing its doors for good.
As first reported by OnMilwaukee and later announced on Gather’s social media accounts, the bakery’s final day of service will be Sunday, April 12. The reason for the sudden closure? “Our building has experienced a significant mechanical failure that has rendered our space inoperable for bakery operations,” reads a social media post.
Here’s the full post:
We have some difficult news to share—Gather Bakehouse will be closing this Sunday.
This decision was not made by choice. Our building has experienced a significant mechanical failure that has rendered our space inoperable for bakery operations. Despite outreach to our landlord seeking a resolution, we have not been able to obtain the repairs necessary to allow us to safely continue. Circumstances outside of our control have made it impossible for us to keep our doors open.
We will be honoring our community with one final week of service. We will have one last Hot Ham & Rolls this Sunday. As we work through our remaining inventory, some items may run out earlier than usual, and we are grateful for your understanding.
We are incredibly proud of what we built here, and deeply grateful for every customer, neighbor, and supporter who walked through our doors. This community has meant more to us than we will ever be able to express.
Thank you for everything.
Brittany Wohlfeil assumed ownership of the former Lakeside Bakery in October 2024. The business was rebranded Gather Bakehouse the following year.
